    Whitehat Jr is awesome

I am a software developer for 14 years. I have build many production grade systems for banks , health care , online , ecommerce etc. One of my major work area is mentoring . I help new software developers to come a master and architect of software development.

    https://in.linkedin.com/in/ratnesh-singh-parihar-35790a15

Why I am writing this blog?

The software developers can easily understand why app like whithat junior don’t target. But the sweet spot for these TechEd companies are parents who are rich/ambitious for their child . They are selling a dream to them which is nothing but a scam. But They don’t understand what they are buying . So I am going to help them to make their decision .

    What is coding?

This is the most important aspect of buying their products.

“ Coding is  One’s ability to solve real life problems with help of computing power by providing set of instructions and make something useful.  “

For example, let say you want to calculate the EMIs of 10,000 people , then as a code you understand the math behind EMIs calculation then you create a computations model (set of instructions) and run this for 10000 people. Now your code is useful because one can’t calculate EMIs for 10,000 people.

    What is not coding?

Building apps using drag and drop . Learning code blocks using ready made constructs. Copy paste someone’s script and run . For EMI calculator you would need to think through about formula and design a computational mode which can run it for 10000 people, Just knowing for loop and if else will not make you solve this problem.

Here are my top 10 reasons to stay away from online coding like WhitHat Junior

    1.   Child’s Age

If you want your child to be a coder try to explain the EMI problem to him, If he can understood then he can code otherwise your efforts and lot of money will be wasted and Child will be demoralised, With this time and money you can do a lot with other activities

    2.   Code.org is not code learning platform and its free

In order to solve real life problems, you need to draft a design and solution first and then using programming constructs you build a computational machine, what code.org does is other way around and even if its right platform its free with hundreds of free tutorials on YouTube. You should not pay 50k for code.org by a teacher who even can’t code.

    3.   Teachers are not coders themselves

You are paying premium for teacher’s services so you deserved to get someone who is very good on programming and have years of experience on coding and teaching coding . But most of their teachers are moderate salary generic teachers who are good in speaking English and many cases good in teaching but they have nothing to do with programming, they will somehow complete the course and your child will build an app with copy pasting already written code and this app will not get use by anyone . so at the end you will pay high cost for a hobby which will not long last.

    4.   Teaching pattern is scripted

Teacher’s followed a ready made script and strict themselves to that only , they will not allow child to ask basic question like “what is memory , disk , what is variable etc.”? this script is design to give a perception that there is growth and your child is learning a lot and He will hit a jackpot this garbage scripted material , after sometime your child will become bore and stop asking questions and he will be on tremendous pressure to justify you money invested , at the end it will fail and He will be blamed for not being good enough , but it was your fault .

    5.   One to One don’t work in code mentoring

I am saying this based on my vast experience with coding and working with all kind of coders . Learning coding is very personal and vary from individual taste . when you try to teach someone coding on one to one session in majority of cases you end up with feeding your style , flavours, strategies and majority of those might not work for other. Best way to learn coding is online courses and free stuff in internet. You can always have mentors for solutioning, design, problem solving.

    6.   Coding don’t make you Next Mr. Bill Gates

This is the biggest of all, Mr. Bill Gates is Bill Gates not because of his coding skill but because of his leadership, remember only a good parents can delivers great leaders to society . So if you want your child to be a leader, create a healthy atmosphere in home, keep him happy , positive , encourage him to play sports , meet with friends and teach him how to deal with failures.

    7.   Content is not meaningful

I have checked their content from all angle and summary is their content is completely garbage it looks good and feels good but the fundamentals are poor. They will teach you missile technology using coding is laughable .  All the contents are trap and they will not teach you a thing about this world . Its completely hypothetical and propaganda . They have content about “real time databases” with out providing a genuine use case .

    8.   Coding is not the next big Idea in Technology

Trust me , If you want to build next of apples, googles ,amazons the coding will least of your worries , Building or contributing into a technology requires years of experience into domain , you ability to disrupt and execute new ideas . even a simple app become successful not because of its coding but because of its usefulness . Coding experts don’t become technology experts .

    9.   Hard selling

In education system I have never seen this kind of hard selling . They will project your child as the next big thing but also give you threats if you don’t buy their content . They have full team of sales executives who all are nothing but cheap liars .They will hard sell and spends hours in call with you and not for your child’s best of interest but only for your money and their targets . Once the deal is close they will never meet you.  So don’t buy their words, better talk to parents you already opted for particular courses and then decide.

    10. Best way to learn coding is “Use free stuff in internet”

They are selling which is already available in internet and absolutely free, all you need to do is good google and you will get all the content to learn coding , best way to start with “programming puzzles  “

    Summary

Whithat Junior is not trustworthy and costly , in the end you will spend large amount of money of a hobby which will not last long . Plz do your child a favour and don’t buy their content at all. Don’t buy just because your neighbour bought it . Its your child and he can’t become a status symbol for you . If destiny for your child is to become a coder then He will but don’t push him into this utter nonsense.

Fantastic Blog! I think more parents need to wake up and smell the coffee and become wise like you. I got screwed over like this in the past in something similar, but kept going with it to justify the hard earned money spent on the course. In the end, it never helped. I didn’t get the goals I was set out to achieve. You get demoralized so bad since parents won’t believe that the teacher is bad and they will simply blame you like these scam institutes.
